New Generation TCO Certified in development
This year we will launch the New Generation TCO Certified. TCO Development is currently working on new TCO Certified criteria for PCs (notebooks, desktops, all-in-one PCs) and displays. Criteria will focus on Sustainability and will include comprehensive requirements for Corporate Social Responsibility in IT product manufacturing, along with enhanced criteria for environment and usability. The new program promises the most comprehensive approach to sustainability in IT hardware available in a labeling program today.

For purchasers, this is a good time to review your contract documentation specifying the environmental certifications you require for IT hardware. As earlier versions of the TCO certification will become obsolete with the launch of the new program, it is important to cite ”The latest TCO Certified” or ”Most recent version of TCO Certified” in your purchasing criteria. For help with this, contact clare.hobby@tcodevelopment.com or anna.pramborg@tcodevelopment.com.

Welcome Gabriella Blomgren, Director of Marketing
We’re pleased to welcome Gabriella Blomgren as Director of Marketing for TCO Development. Gabriella joins us from the public sector and brings with her many years of management experience in public affairs, environment and sustainability issues.
Gabriella shared some insights with us:
”I am passionate about sustainable business from an economic, social and environmental perspective and believe it’s important to be involved in an organization that is able to make a difference in sustainable development. Working with TCO Development in the Sustainable IT space offers a huge opportunity. While the IT industry is making significant strives towards more sustainable practices, there is still a lot to do. IT can also be a part of the solution, through virtual solutions and efficiencies that save energy and contribute to a more sustainable IT environment.

I’m looking forward to working closely with professional purchasers as well as our industry partners to further increase demand and availability of sustainable IT solutions through our TCO programs.”

TCO certification turns 20!
This year we’re celebrating 20 years of TCO certification for IT products! During 2012 we’re planning a number of ways to commemorate this important milestone and we hope you’ll join us as we enter an exciting new phase in the TCO Certified program.

Beginning in 1992 with a focus on display safety and health and growing to become an internationally renown sustainability label for IT products, TCO Certified has made a significant contribution towards sustainable design and use of electronics. Found on over half of the world’s computer displays, TCO Certified has now expanded to include notebooks and desktops, tablets, all-in-one PCs, projectors and phone headsets.
This year we are planning to launch the next generation of TCO Certified, which includes an expanded focus on Corporate Social Responsibility, along with requirements for usabilty and minimal environmental impact.

We hope you’ll join us in this anniversary year by renewing your commitment to Sustainable IT.
